
Wind Band Workshop
Russ Young
Russ started his musical career at the age of seven as a trumpet/cornet player in Ripon, North Yorkshire and has played with various Wind Bands/Brass Bands throughout the country. He joined the Royal Marines Band Service in 1993 eventually achieving the rank of Warrant Officer Bandmaster and has enjoyed many engagements internationally, highlights being San Diego, Oregon, Naples, Japan, Cyprus and Finland. He gained the LRSM diploma in music direction (Wind Band) and AMusTCL diploma in Musical Theory, Criticism and Literature in 2007, followed by a first-class honours’ degree in music in 2009. In addition to conducting, Russ is a keen composer and has been fortunate enough to have many of his works performed at the Mountbatten Festival of Music and the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall.
Recently Russ was the resident conductor of Sandhurst Silver Band for five years and now supports various local bands through conducting, coaching and performance.

Join Our next Wind Band Workshop – Sunday, 11th May!
Following the popularity of our first Wind Band Workshop in Havant, we are excited to invite you to our second Wind Band Workshop, led by the talented conductor Russ Young!
This fun and engaging workshop is open to advance-level musicians of all ages and will take place at the Hayling Island Community Centre (PO11 0HB). Participants will have the opportunity to perform both John de Meij’s Symphony Number 1, ‘The Lord of the Rings’, and Alfred Reed’s ‘The Hounds of Spring’.
We welcome all advanced Wind, Brass, and Percussion players. The day will culminate in an informal performance for friends and family to enjoy.

- Cost: £15.00 per participant
- Recommended Level: Grade 6 and above (If you're unsure, feel free to ask!)
